A bed quilt covers the mattress top, hangs down both sides and the foot by the drop, and can run up over the pillows with a tuck. The headboard side has no drop.
Width = mattress width + 2 x drop. Length = mattress length + drop + pillow tuck. A 12 to 14 inch drop covers most mattresses; 16 inches reaches part of the frame and 22 inches the floor on a standard bed.
